SYNOPSIS

The first images of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo that went around the world, the mythical photo of Diego Maradona’s goal against the English in the 1986 World Cup and the series on the historic Trial of the Military Juntas are some of the most emblematic photos captured by the lens of Eduardo Longoni.

This photographer, who has had violence as an indelible mark since his beginnings, synthesises the commitment of a whole generation of photojournalists who resisted in the streets during the dark years of the civil-military dictatorship.

Longoni is a restless artist who reinvents himself and sets out in search of new professional challenges. As he prepares a retrospective of his 40-year career, he redefines the meaning of his photographs by resorting to new artistic forms and languages.

Today, away from the streets, Eduardo looks back to his origins. He travels through the places of his childhood in the city of Mar del Plata, and decides to mount a public projection of his photos there, printing his images on the rough waves of the sea.

Eduardo Longoni’s photographs question us: are they beautiful or compromising? Do they cry out a truth or are they a work of art? Whatever the answer, his gaze has always been marked by the same sense: that of honesty.
